How did the Miracle Belt™ get its name? Actually, the therapeutic professionals who did our initial testing inspired the name for the Miracle Belt. During the early stages of testing, therapists kept saying; "this belt is miraculous". Quite simply, the name stuck based on the feedback we received during development.Who will benefit from using the Miracle Belt™? Anyone facing the challenges posed by Autism, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Angelman syndome, Apraxia, Aspergers syndrome (AS), Ataxia, Cerebral Palsy, Down syndrome, Dyslexia, Fetal Alcohol syndrome (FAS), Hypotonia, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD-NOS), Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS), Rett syndrome, Sensory Integration Disorder (SID), and Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) will benefit.
How does the Miracle Belt™ work?
The Miracle Belt stimulates the proprioceptive system through nerve
receptors that are positioned in the muscles, joints and ligaments
around joints. These receptors sense tension and pass this information
to the brain where it is processed. The brain responds by signaling
the muscles to contract or relax creating improved awareness through
a stronger neuro-muscular connection with the brain.
What is Proprioception?
Proprioception is the sense of position and movement of the limbs
and the sense of muscular tension. The awareness of the orientation
of the body in space and the direction, extent, and rate of movement
of the limbs depend in part upon information derived from sensory
receptors in the joints, tendons, and muscles. Information from
these receptors, called proprioceptors, is normally integrated with
that arising from vestibular receptors (which signal gravitational
acceleration and changes in velocity of movements of the head),
as well as from visual, auditory, and tactile receptors. Sensory
information from certain proprioceptors, particularly those in muscles
and tendons, need not reach consciousness, but can be used by the
motor system as feedback to guide postural adjustments and control
of well-practiced or semiautomatic movements such as those involved
in walking.
What is Sensory Integration?
Sensory Integration (SI) is an innate neurobiological process which
refers to the integration of sensory stimulation, within our environment,
by the brain. Our brain allows us, without conscious thought, to
take in information from our senses, organize it and make a plan
to produce a meaningful response so we may interact within our environment.
The senses which are the most obvious are those of taste, touch,
sight, hearing, and smell. The hidden senses are those of movement
(vestibular or inner ear) and of body position in space (proprioception).
These hidden senses are the regulators of our nervous system and
help build the foundation for purposeful movement.
What is the Miracle Belt™ made of? Using the latest in foam technology we have created the most comfortable, safe, and durable line of sensory aids for infants and children. The Miracle Belt is made of EVA foam for flexibility and stability along with neoprene weight pouches filled with tiny stainless steel balls. The Miracle Belt was specifically designed with non removable weight to protect you and your child. The weight provided in the belt has been extensively tested by therapists and is proven to be the most effective weighted therapy for your child's waist size and weight. The Miracle Belt is a patented product.
How long will it take to see Results?
Most children will experience immediate and dramatic results while
others will experience a gradual increase in awareness over time.
How do you recommend we introduce
the Miracle Belt™ to our child? The Miracle Belt is an highly effective sensory aid! Be confident when you put the belt on! Some children need a sense of ownership before they become comfortable with wearing the belt. We recommend you leave the belt in your child's room for a few days so they become familiar with the belt. Some parents call the belt a "Batman Belt" or "Magic Belt".
Note: If your child is not feeling well this might cause them to be resistant to wearing the belt.
How long should my child wear the
belt? The Miracle Belt may be worn from 15 to 30 minutes to all day with breaks for meals, outside play, etc. Your child may prefer to wear the belt over their lap while eating. Watch your child's behavior, they will let you know when they've had enough. The amount of time your child wears the belt may vary from day to day.
Note: Some children may prefer to wear the belt under their clothing.
Is the Miracle Belt™ safe? Absolutely! The latest advancements in foam manufacturing were incorporated into the design of the Miracle Belt, along with quality workmanship, ensuring the Miracle Belt is the most durable, comfortable, and safe sensory aid for infants and children.
Has the Miracle Belt™ been tested?
Our initial testing was done by occupational and physical therapists
at Community Haven for Adults and Children (CHAC) in Sarasota, Florida
www.chachaven.com. The wildly successful introduction of the Miracle Belt into their sensory therapy rehabilitation program has greatly improved the quality of rehabilitation sessions by allowing the therapists to make the most of their precious time with each child. Specifically, wear of the Miracle Belt helps create more balanced, calm, and aware children regardless of their sensory needs. The findings of CHAC are consistent with feedback from practical application from occupational therapists, physical therapists, teachers, and parents. The Miracle Belt is a sensory aid which safely and immediately calms the wearer and improves body awareness!
Why is the Miracle Belt™ the best
sensory aid for my child? There are a number of reasons why the Miracle Belt is more effective than other weighted sensory aids. Having the weight of the belt centered around the mid section of the body helps create a more stable base of support for improving posture, balance, and coordination. Other weighted sensory aids, such as weighted vests, have been found to negatively effect posture due to their inability to bring the body into a balanced and upright position. The Miracle Belt is the most comfortable, safe, and durable weighted therapy belt on the market.
What is the difference between
the Miracle Belt™ and Sensory Belt™? The only difference between the Miracle Belt and Sensory Belt is the size. The Miracle Belt is specifically designed for infants and children who weigh less than 75 pounds. The Sensory Belt is specifically designed for children, teens, and adults who weigh more than 75 pounds. Both the Miracle Belt and Sensory Belt are designed with a side release buckle which makes them easy to adjust.
Does the Miracle Belt™ come in different
colors? The standard belt color is black but we do offer covers for the belts which are available in either blue or pink.
